- Panerai PAM 358 Chronopassion Limited Edition Watch Available On James List...read full
In the world of limited edition Panerai watches there are cool ones and boring ones. This is one of the really cool ones. I also love that they all (limited to 100 pieces) sold out within one hour of being released. This is the Panerai Luminor Submersible PAM 358, and was specially made for the Parisian high-end watch store Chronopassion. The PAM 358 is a pretty crazy watch. Water resistant to 2500 meters (over 8,000 feet), the watch is shaped like a diving vessel with a large rounded bottom. It is known as a "destro" model, or lefty model, because the crown is on the left side of the watch. It is really thick as well - even by Panerai standard. The case is 47mm wide in titanium with a special rotating diver's bezel that is in steel. This is one of the most coveted, ultimate Panerai dive watches out there.
- Daniel Strom Memento Mori, Carpe Diem Watch: Most Expensive Goth Garb Ever?...read full
This watch looks like Big Ben from a nightmare. What looks like a Halloween holiday watch is actually the newest luxury timepieces from Daniel Strom, son of watch maker Armin Strom. I am sure that daddy is really keen on Daniel's new dark art. Perhaps, it followed these events: first he dyed his hair black, then painted his nails black. Soon he was wearing Nine Inch Nail's t-shirts and shunning the sunlight. But things got really weird when he craved blood (but soon abandoned that idea after tasting the stuff), and decided to follow in his father's footsteps in the "dark arts of watch making." So imagine this high-end result. What you have here is probably the world's most expensive goth watch accessory. Troubled teenage girls and boys can now have a new object of their affection as opposed to that cool coffin-style twin size bed they have been eying.
- Vittorium AT Watches...read full
So recently, I am on the phone with a particularly enthusiastic Italian man who is telling me about Vittorium. He speaks to me like Vittorium is his child - no his family name - in a particularly enthusiastic manner that only Italians can seem to have mastered. Vittorium is a brand that until recently was totally unknown to me. Which makes sense as there isn't a lot of advertising and more or less little presence so far in the US. Vittorium has been around for a long time actually - but only recently started to brand their own watches - prior to such being a supplier for other brands. So the Swiss brand explain by the Italian brand has my attention. And who better to convey the qualities of the watches - which themselves have an undeniably Mediterranean style to them.
- Casio G-Shock X-Large Combi GA100 Watch Review...read full
In addition to the black and red colored version you see here, there are some fancy color combos that are really fun. My fav is the white and purple (yes, that is my favorite), and there is a CAT tractor looking yellow and block style. In Japan, there will be even more styles if you feel like seeing what is available overseas. Overall a great new G-Shock collection, especially for people who wouldn't normally consider a digital watch. While the GA100 X-Large Combi is not without its minor issues, it is an enjoy experience, and a good looking watch that is bound to lift your style just a little bit. Once again, retail price is $99.
- Ulysse Nardin Caprice Tiger Watch...read full
Ulysse Nardin offers up a limited edition high jewelry watch that can meow and roar. In 18k white gold, with diamonds all over the case, and even on set on the 22k white gold automatic rotor.
See my article on the Ulysse Nardin Caprice Tiger watch at Haute Living here.
- Bertolucci Giro Chronograph Watches Have A Freaky Face...read full
It is entirely possible that my warped mind sees watches differently than other people do. Over the course of my writing about Bertolucci watches, they have always looked interesting, but a bit strange to me. I finally connected a few of the things that some of their common Chronograph models remind of me. Maybe you agree? You can tell that these watches are all part of the same family. Some or all are Bertoluccia Giro (All-Black Giro see here), and some are just called Bertolucci Quartz Chronograph watches. No matter the name, they each have large, gaping mouths. Why? I couldn't tell you. Though here are some of the possible design influences. My favorite is near the bottom of course. Each is highly disturbing in its own way. Bertolucci might need to occasionally revise their "Mediterranean Inspiration" slogan... to something else.
- Casio Pathfinder PAW-5000 Watch Review...read full
Casio lovers have been waiting for an analog version of the esteemed Pathfinder watch for years (elsewhere called ProTrek). The do anything watch in the Casio family was a bit plagued by nerditis. That is, while the watches are fantastically functional, they ooze a bit of dork. I am a proud owner of many a
- Alpina 12 Hours Of Sebring GMT Chrono Watch...read full
2010 is the second year of Alpina being the official timekeeper for the storied 12 Hours of Sebring race in Florida. The manufacturer celebrated this partnership with the production of a limited edition, two-timezone chronograph creatively called the 12 Hours of Sebring Automatic Chrono GMT. The watch is strongly influenced by style elements of race cars. This concept, unless overdone like in several AP Offshores, works fantastically. The sporty, yet subtle style and quality specs of this watch appealed to me when I first received the press release but playing with the actual timepiece at Baselworld 2010 was when I really got to appreciate it.
- Porsche Design P6780 Diver Watch Is Hand Me Down Eterna...read full
When I visited the Porsche Design booth at Baselworld 2010 I was pretty amused to see the new P'6780 Diver watch cause it looked pretty familiar. In fact, just a few years ago Eterna released a watch that was almost identical, called the Eterna KonTiki Diver. I really loved about that piece and wrote about it here. Why was it that somehow the Eterna KonTiki Diver was now a simplified Porsche Design watch?
- Ball Engineer Hydrocarbon Spacemaster Orbital Watch...read full
"The Amortiser" sounds like a banking industry themed super villain. But here it is a cool piece of functionality that you won't find on other watches in this price range. New from Ball watches is the Engineer Hydrocarbon Spacemaster Orbital watch, a mouthful of a name, but suitable for a chunky timepiece with this much functionality. I got my hands on this watch, which should be available close to the time you read this.
